KKĠ has embarked upon a new Youth Initiatives project for 2009. The project entitled "Fresh Minds for a New World" seeks to raise awareness about the North-South divide, with special focus on Fair Trade as a recognized tool for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Through the project we shall be:

a. producing a series of posters that will educated the public about the 8 MDGs established by all governments at the UN and the ways in which Fair Trade helps achieve the MDGs,

b. organizing Fair Trade seminars in community and youth groups,

c. holding events related to Fair Trade and the MDGs in Gozo, and

d. receiving support to organize our annual WorldFest activity.

Sub-committees will be formed to coordinate different aspects of the project. Anyone interested in participating in any of these sub-committees is more than welcome.

Schools, local youth, community or church groups wishing to have a seminar about Fair Trade and the MDGs organized in their premises are encouraged to get back to us.

Nostalġija ta’ libertà

Belgian ecologist Eric Van Monckhoven, Renzo Spiteri and his band TRANIA, local funk band Zizza Ensemble, French singer-songwriter Rouage, writers Immanuel Mifsud and Adrian Grima, and Koperattiva Rurali Manikata are among the guests of the fair trade festival WorldFest at the Upper Barracca Gardens on Sunday 22 June between 4.00pm and 10.00pm. Ethnic food and Fair Trade drinks will be on sale from 6.45pm onwards.

World-wide Fair Trade event on Saturday, May 10^th calls attention to the connection between Fair Trade and the environment.  Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust is an IFAT (The International Fair Trade  Association) member and  will be part of this International Fair Trade movement event.

Touching diversity! Mediterranean Artisans in a creative dialogue

Artisans from European and Mediterranean countries will be meeting their Maltese counterparts in various local markets to exhibit their crafts while creating new items and sharing their techniques. The artisans will demonstrate how we can experience other cultures through the sense of touch, thus enhancing intercultural dialogue through common ground and an acquired understanding of each other’s tradecraft.
