Producers

Ecuador: more than 400 rural co-operatives work under the umbrella of MCCH, which was established with the purpose of encouraging an alternative and independent commercialisation and exchange of products between in cities and rural areas.
Costa Rica: The organisation was founded in 1962 by a group of small producers who decided to jointly oppose the local intermediaries and sell their products in an independent way. The co-operative comprises more than 5.000 members (1.000 are women).

Mexico: the Maya beekeepers organisation was founded in 1992 in Holpechen, Campeche state situated in the central area of the Yucatan peninsula. It is a project of great value: apiculture plays an important role in environmental sustainability. Honeybees are responsible for pollinating a variety of plants and therefore indirectly promote the preservation of biodiversity.

Chile: 120 families in Valdivia region work for Apicop. Twenty percent of beekeepers are of Mapuche origins: this indigenous population from Chile has fought against Spaniards until XIX century and is now, as a result of aggressive colonial economic models and illnesses, a minority of only 130 000 people living in poverty and no basic rights.
Dominican Republic: more than 9 000 small-scale producers work in this non-profit co-operative since 1989, and represent 25% of the entire cocoa production in the Dominican Republic. Their main goal is to improve the local living standards and to develop the cocoa sector with particular focus on organic farming methods. Conacado is supporting small enterprises held by women that work with cocoa rejects and produce chocolate for the national market.

Brazil: the co-operative is located in Picos (Piau region): an area of great importance for cashew nuts production. Coomap, with its 123 members, is the first democratically organised farmers co-operative in the region. It is crucial for the coordination of all production activities (cashew nuts cultivation, storage and commercialisation).
